What is NAMBA District 9?

NAMBA or the North American Model Boat Association, is the governing body of our sport of R/C boat racing. Different regions are identified by a district number. Our district, District 9, covers Northern California and Northern Nevada. Here in District 9 we race a variety of classes from 1/8 Scale Unlimited Hydroplanes to Outrigger and Sport Hydros. Plus Monos or V Hulls and different classed of Tunnel Hulls and Catamarans. We use three basic types of power plants as well.  Nitro, Gas and Electric. Are you interested in warship combat we have these in our district also.  How old do you need to be?  Well we have racers of all ages....from age 5 to 80 and up. R/C Boat Racing can be fun for the whole family and we have many family teams in District 9.

Our race season begins in February and ends usually in late October or November, with the grand finale the Top Gun Shootout.  We race in various locations in Northern California & Nevada. Spectators are always welcome and so are new boaters. If you come to a race and see a class you might like to try we have a number of boaters that would be willing to lend a helping hand to get you started. But BE CAREFUL! This hobby is very addictive...just ask any of our racers! For more information about racing in your area click on the Clubs and Contacts button to the left.

12-9-10

At the District Meeting it was decided and now confirmed that the Contest Directors meeting will be held at Roundtable on Fremont blvd in Fremont... January 23 2011 @ noon. A schedule for 11 District points races (5 @ Fremont 5 @ Lake Minden and 1 @ Seaside) with 4 District fun (non points) will be discussed and approved.

Also this piece of information has come to our attention and should be posted and voted on by our district members

Earlier this year, a request for re-districting was submitted. The portion of Utah that is in District 9 has requested to now be in District 20. This request has come from the Decker Dunkers R/C Model Boat Club of which Karl Loveless is the club president in the Salt Lake area. Re-districting is a very important decision and carries with it a very expensive cost so there were things that needed to be addressed. First, we needed to know how serious the Northern Utah portion of District 9 was with the move. They showed that they were by hosting a multi-day race this year and inviting other districts. They took it to the next level by contributing an article of their event which can be read in the October Propwash.

They also needed the support of District 20 which District Director Robert Holland and his membership has done by participating at the Decker Dunkers race. Decker Dunkers has also participated in District 20 races. They would be part of the District 20 points series races and have the same rights as all of the other clubs in District 20 with race dates. District 9 would also have to grant permission for this move to be allowed. District Alfred Lanza and Assistant District Director Alan Terry have already agreed to this.

Cathie Galbraith has dealt with requests like this in the past so I am relying on her expertise on the best way to pursue this. Here is what we came up with.

The NAMBA Board of Directors will vote yes or no on agreeing with the move of Northern Utah moving from District 9 to District 20. If agreed upon, for the 2011 year, Northern Utah would be part of District 20 on an interim basis. They would participate in determining race dates, race locations, points series races, and have full voting privileges.

If in the year 2011, everything works out like we feel it should (race dates, voting, club rights, membership rights and privileges, etc,), then a vote would be presented to the District 9 membership and the District 20 membership. They would have the final say on the re-districting proposal.

This is a very important decision that the NAMBA BOD will be making so please do not take it lightly. Discussion and questions will be accepted through Sunday December 5, 2011 followed by a simple majority vote. If more time is needed, that will not be a problem. I selected this particular date as the following weekend I will be in Nevada at the District 19 year end meeting and awards banquet.

100% voting participation would be appreciated
