What is NAMBA District 9?

NAMBA or the North American Model Boat Association, is the governing body of our sport of R/C boat racing. Different regions are identified by a district number. Our district, District 9, covers Northern California and Northern Nevada. Here in District 9 we race a variety of classes from 1/8 Scale Unlimited Hydroplanes to Outrigger and Sport Hydros. Plus Monos or V Hulls and different classed of Tunnel Hulls and Catamarans. We use three basic types of power plants as well.  Nitro, Gas and Electric. Are you interested in warship combat we have these in our district also.  How old do you need to be?  Well we have racers of all ages....from age 5 to 80 and up. R/C Boat Racing can be fun for the whole family and we have many family teams in District 9.

Our race season begins in February and ends usually in late October or November, with the grand finale the Top Gun Shootout.  We race in various locations in Northern California & Nevada. Spectators are always welcome and so are new boaters. If you come to a race and see a class you might like to try we have a number of boaters that would be willing to lend a helping hand to get you started. But BE CAREFUL! This hobby is very addictive...just ask any of our racers! For more information about racing in your area click on the Clubs and Contacts button to the left.

In The News......

08-31-10

San Diego Bayfair officials  and H1 Unlimited have agreed to resume racing the world's fastest boats on Mission Bay, September 17-19.

The Air National Guard will be the title sponsor of the race.  The newest sponsor to join the sport is Degree Men, and they will be the presenting sponsor. The race will be known as the Air Guard Championship presented by Degree Men.

Former Boeing Airlines President and CEO, Scott Carson and his wife, will also be contributing financially to the event in honor of the American military. The Carson's have a son in law serving in Afghanistan.

Eleven teams will compete for the Air Guard Championship trophy on the super fast 2 1/2 mile Bill Muncey Memorial race course.

The GP West series will also join the Unlimiteds on Mission Bay, returning after their 2009 appearance at Bayfair. The automotive powered fleet has several former Unlimited driving greats racing in that highly competative series.

The Unlimiteds also make a return to the air waves of cable TV. The Air Guard Championship can be seen on the Versus network Saturday, October 16. The time has yet to be announced. Tampa Digital will have live streaming of the event as well.

The return of San Diego makes it the 5th stop on the H1 tour in 2010. A fleet of 10 will journey east immediately after the race, bound for Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, to board a freighter for the 6th and final stop of the season at the UIM World Championship in Doha, Qatar (November 19-21).

An explantion of our two new rules for the District

1st "The cleanup rule"

Rule 05-09

All participants at an event must stay to cleanup at the end of each event unless released by the CD or forfeit his or her points for that event.

By definition the Event is the race weekend.

For those contestants racing on Saturday only, their event ends after Saturday racing. For those contestants racing on Sunday only, their event ends after Sunday racing.
For those contestants racing both days, their event ends after Sunday's racing.

Based on this explanation, contestants, unless excused by the CD or the CD's rep, must clean up, or lose their points for their event.

2nd "The points rule"

Rule 07-09

A double points race will be randomly selected by drawing at the end of the season and racers will drop their worst race points.

At the end of the season the points chairman will review each contestant’s points for each class, and remove the lowest points within that class. The points chairman will then double the points for the contest that the District Director randomly draws at the end of the season.

This random drawing will be done at the last race of the season on Sunday after racing is finished. The drawing will be made by the District Director or his representative, excluding the points chairman.

The tally will be posted and the contestants will review their points tally and if necessary confer with the points chairman.

The Rules Chairmen will take any comments and will discuss these rules and explanations in person at a race or by email (dave.bestpitch@namba.com)

Remember the Rule proposal deline for next season is coming up and must be presented to the Rules Chairman by the deadline date...Mail...email...or in person.
